ABOUT TIDEWINGS

tidewings was founded by Daniela Hinman, a civic designer and artist based in Carmel Valley who brings community organizing, policy work, and creative practice to the work of building relational spaces. The studio emerged from a conviction that making together is fundamental to how communities hold themselves.

tidewings is a practice of neighborliness — civic design at the kitchen table. Creative practice, done together, is one of the oldest ways a community has of holding itself relationally. A table set for five does something a town hall or festival cannot. In that slowness and presence, we have the opportunity to truly see each other as the neighbors that we are. Routine turns into tradition, and someone who was once a stranger may become a friend.

The studio hosts intimate seasonal workshops in writing, natural pigment, letter writing, and seasonal art. tidewings also welcomes visiting artists and practitioners who share this commitment to creative practice as relational practice — hosting workshops, residencies, and gatherings that deepen the work of neighborliness in Carmel Valley.

tidewings Studio is a place where we engage not only in the making itself, but in what the making makes possible between people.
